Indepth Insight into AORaCC Résumés

Most writing formats follow a direct set of guidelines and regulations for the correct use of English appropriate grammar. Yet if we look at Résumés, you will find there is no set grammar formats throughout the broad range of diverse Résumés. Why is this you ask?

Taking into account the term Résumé, if we look http://www.dictionary.com/browse/resume- the term "Résumé" is described here as

"1. a summing up; summary. 2. a brief written account of personal, educational, and professional qualifications and experience, as that prepared by an applicant for a job."

This is not referring to a novel or a life biography, therefore a Resume format should be precise and to the point conveying the diversity of understanding, knowledge, developed skills and abilities and experience within the particular industry you are seeking employment. The reason why I state "within the particular industry you are seeking employment" is because you need to include in detail the skills and abilities of the industry you are seeking employment within to display a developed passion and commitment. Yet in stating this, do not disregard your experience outside of an industry which you are seeking employment in, as if could be beneficial to including in Résumé. I see this happen quiet offend in fact. For example say you have been a Retail Manager and have just retrained and are now seeking employment within an Assistant In Nursing role. Displaying your experience as a Retail Manager shows a potential employer you have a vast range of transferable skills. Just a couple of skills that come to mind are: the ability to organise, liaise and follow up with customers, contractors, suppliers, governing bodies and stakeholders, maintain professional conduct, awareness of manual handling, developed customer service and problem solving skills, hygiene and personal presentation, ability to maintain a WHS compliant environment, demonstrated ability to follow Policies and Procedures, understanding and ability to maintain compliance with Federal, State and Local Laws, Legislation and Regulations, ability to take leadership, developed interpersonal and communication skills, ability to complete complex documents and conduct communications through ICT, awareness of security related threats or hazards, developed awareness of confidentiality boundaries and the skills to working effectively in culturally diverse environments.

Just a bunch of words right? How could this ever be effective you ask? Well firstly you do not want to write a indepth paragraph about who you worked for, the Policies and Procedures which were executed, suppliers and people you liaised with, how much the gross and net profit turnover was, what tactics and strategies were reviewed or implemented and the success rate or disclosing representatives and colleagues names or status. Firstly in hindsight you may be exceeding confidentiality of your previous employers strategies and tactics within the workplace, secondly you are wasting the reader's time and while a potential employer is reading irrelevant information, they should be ticking off the "Hiring Factors List", thirdly if you do not keep the reader engaged you jeopardize your entire opportunity altogether. Lets face it we have all picked up a book and read the first couple of lines and thought, let's put you back on the bookcase. This is what you NEED to avoid. I like to create a Résumé to leave the person wanting and needing to know more, therefore it requires requesting you in for an interview. This is only for cases where you are applying and communicating with an actual person, whereas if you are applying online, it's different again which I will explore in a moment.

The way I perceive it is, an employer has brainstormed and developed a list of qualities and abilities for a new employee, this is what I like to refer to as the "Hiring Factors List" which is usually found in the advertisement and is a vital necessity to successfully gaining an interview. Therefore an employer is going to be looking through each application looking to identify a person with the particular qualities, so if you present an employer with a Cover Letter identifying each quality and skill as documented in the advertisement this is the winning clue, then upon reading the cover letter the person is ticking off each quality by the end of the Cover Letter they will know if you are going to be the next person for the role. An effective Cover Letter is one which lists every attribute identified by an employer and makes reference to your developed skills and experiences. Also psychologically when writing a Cover Letter, use a statement requesting help or assistance - this will be beneficial. It is human nature to want to help another person, therefore I like to use this tactic when writing Cover Letter, a classic example being "I am writing to you today in hope you may be able to assist." Anyhow let's leave this for another time, I can not give away all my tricks of the trade, it took me tens of thousands of applications, endless hours, weeks and months devoted to achieving the best outcome for my clients, I would work around the clock. Spending hours staring blankly at charts engaged in analysis, after creating, testing and trying out different types of applications for clients, working with the structure and information on a Résumé and the development of effective Cover Letters to create an interest and initiate a response to an application along with probably just as many if not 3-4 times more telephone conversations with HR Managers, Supervisors, Managers, Owners and Business Stakeholders in promoting and selling clients' skills and abilities, so you get to know what words spark interest by the tone and sound of the person's voice and by the following sentences and questions which follow after upselling the client. I would usually apply for the position then call the employer 3-4 days later and ensure they have received and seen the Résumé, I kid you not 99.8% of the time, I would have to resend the Résumé through, which was great, I now have a well developed network of email address. I also experience SO many tradespersons not finding employment because of this exact reason, hence why I have taken on this passionate mission to defeat your misery one by one, essentially providing you with many opportunities and choices to turn your life around.
